Prepare Your STL Data With FME For 3D Printing
STL (aka. stereolithography aka. standard tessellation language aka. standard triangle language… somebody choose a name already!) files are one of the most commonly used formats by 3D printer systems. These 3D models are created using a series of triangles (or facets) in a process called tessellation. With FME you can bring together models of all sorts to develop three dimensional triangulated models that you can print and display for all to see.
Add On the Third Dimension
3D is the new black - it’s exciting, dynamic, and catches people’s attention. Choose the file(s) that you are interested in converting in FME, and drag-and-drop the transformers of your choice to begin building the conversion workflow. The SurfaceModeller and 3DForcer are great for this! Once your STL files are ready, you can then use programs like Blender or Meshlab to make the final touches before printing.

Before you know it, you’ll have your data converted into or out of the STL format and ready for it’s close up.
Create 3D City Models
Displaying physical, three-dimensional city models is a great way for urban planners to analyze a city and for the public to be engaged in learning about a city. Our customers from the City of Malmo and the City of Oslo have used FME to combine their data and print 3D models of their cities for these reasons. FME’s major contribution to these projects was giving the modelers complete control over their data. No wonder the models turned out fantastic!
