Application Integration 101

Application integration is increasingly being implemented by organizations to enable data to flow freely between systems, improving operational efficiency while delivering actionable insight. Teams can keep using their preferred applications with the confidence that data is up-to-date for staff and external vendors. This workshop will give you a primer on the two main processes of application integration. First, retrieving information as it is written in real-time to application A, and second, parsing this information into application B. True application integration requires these operations to be performed automatically without any manual intervention. The workshop will show how this can be achieved by using two types of URL endpoints: webhooks and APIs. Attendees will walk away with an understanding of application integration concepts and how they can be implemented to allow applications to communicate with each other on the fly. This presentation was given at the 2020 Ohio GIS Conference.
