Share LAS Files as PDFs

Convert LAS point cloud data or 3D models created from them (e.g. DEMs, DSMs, or TIN models) to PDF files. When converted to a PDF file, these models can be shared with anyone no matter their software, hardware, or operating system. FME is a “one stop shop” when it comes to editing and sharing LAS data in a PDF format.

Build Detailed Environments

Use LiDAR points with DWG building files to create 3D city models and display detailed built environments. Orthophotos can be used as well to give your model more detail.

Before: An .LAS point cloud of city

After: City model highlighting building heights with additional orthophoto coloring in .PDF format

Create Elevation Models

LiDAR data can also be used to create DEM or TIN models by using FME transformers like the PointCloudSplitter and SurfaceModeller. This is useful for when the required data is only the ground features.

Before: An LAS point cloud of an area

After: A surface model of the same point cloud area in .PDF format

By converting LAS data to PDF files using FME, anybody can interact with and view your model. Each viewer will be able to spin, rotate, zoom and even fly around your model to visually interpret what was once a point cloud at any angle.
