While much of FME 2014 SP2 involves bug fixes, there are a few updates worth mentioning. I know you’re busy packing for the FME International User Conference, so below is a short version, a medium version, and a long version of what’s new.

The short version, for the modern-day attention span

Better Google Maps Engine reading/writing. Point Cloud sorting. Data Download service progress bar. Japanese character support. Now here’s a video shorter than your attention span.

The long version, for #1 FME fans

New transformers

  • GoogleMapsEngineStyler – For use with the Google Maps Engine Tables writer, this transformer allows users to define layer creation and styling options.
  • PointCloudSorter – Sorts a point cloud by the values of components.

Format reader/writer updates

  • New Point Cloud format: CARIS Spatial Archive (CSAR) Point Cloud reader.
  • Google Maps Engine
    • Added support for custom primary keys.
    • Added attributes for table creation / modification dates.
    • Now uploads KMZ instead of KML (overcomes the 1GB size limit).
FME 2014 SP2 Microsoft Excel updates
In FME 2014 SP2, the Microsoft Excel writer gained the ability to write images into cells.
  • Microsoft Excel
    • Added ability to write images and hyperlinks into cells.
    • Improved ability to use existing spreadsheets as templates.
  • INSPIRE reader/writer updated to use latest schemas.
  • CityGML reader/writer: Curves are now written as gml:LineString element. For backwards compatibility, the parameter “Restrict Curves to Polylines” was added.
  • Intergraph GeoMedia Access Warehouse reader can now read non-ASCII feature type names – e.g. Japanese characters. (これを読める方は、SP2の入手をお勧めします。)

FME Server updates

  • Data Download service
    • Downloads can now be in file types other than .zip.
    • Progress bar now enabled in most browsers during file download.
    • Added ability to download files contained within sub-directories of default results folder.
  • Web UI
    • Enabled feature grouping (e.g. improves use of Feature Type to Read published parameter).
