FME and Open Data Initiatives

Open data initiatives continue to put spatial data in the hands of stakeholders, and the public, around the globe.

Many governments and organizations have made the decision to create centralized, transparent data resources, opening up public data to millions of users.

These projects come with their own set of challenges -bringing together data from disparate sources, reconciling schemas, overcoming format barriers, and ultimately, making the end result available to the public as a usable and timely product.

FME® takes care of the heavy lifting on many of these projects, enabling efficient and automated workflows for spatial data management, transformation, and distribution - including web services to support popular web clients and rapid application development and deployment.

"The beauty of FME Server is that you can download any CKAN dataset, in any format, for any area. In most CKAN implementations, you’d get more than a Terabyte, so downloading them for the whole city when you just want a neighbourhood just doesn’t make sense."
