Fixed License

A single-fixed FME^® license is designed to enable FME to work on a single specified computer. To install FME on a different computer, you must request a new license key.

• Example: Two users in your team need to use FME. Each person has his own computer. Two single-fixed licenses are required.
• To request a fixed license please proceed through the following steps:
  1. Download FME from our website at www.safe.com/downloads and install it on the machine.
  2. Enter the 10-digit registration key(s) in your application form. You can locate the registration key on your machine via Start Programs> FME> FME Licensing Wizard. The registration key is the 10-digit number that appears in the lower left hand corner of the screen. Include this in the License Information box above.

Floating License

A floating license enables a number of concurrent users to simultaneously access a single FME deployment. FlexLM software is installed on a machine that acts as a license server by issuing a license to any client computer that requests one. If the number of user requests exceeds the number of floating licenses purchased, a user will need to wait until one of the active FME users closes FME on their computer so that the FME license is returned to the license server.

• Example: Ten people need to use FME but only five people will likely need to be using the software at the same point in time. FME is installed on each user's computer. Any workstation can run FME, but only a maximum of five workstations can access FME at any one time. If a sixth person tries to use FME, he will have to wait until one of the first five users has finished using the application.
• To request a floating license please proceed through the following steps:
  1. Download FME from our website at www.safe.com/downloads and install it on all of the client machines.
  2. Set up FLEXlm on the license server
     a) Download FLEXlm: ftp://ftp.safe.com/fme/floatingLicense/SafeFLEXlmInstaller.msi
     b) Install FLEXlm on the machine designated as license server.
     c) Enter (copy/paste) the contents of the hostid.txt file in this form. The hostid.txt file should automatically pop up once FLEXlm has completed its installation, but you can also find it via Start > Programs > Safe Software > View hostid.txt on the license server.
