University of British Columbia uses Safe Software’s Spatial ETL Technologies to Integrate Health Information

GeoTec Event 2003 Booth 214 Vancouver, B.C., March 17, 2003 - Safe Software Inc., the industry leader in the creation, support, and development of advanced spatial data translation and transformation technologies, announced that Researchers at the University of British Columbia have successfully integrated province-wide health information using the Feature Manipulation Engine (FME), Safe Software’s Spatial ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) tool.

"By using FME, we were able to overcome difficulties that arose from delineating neighborhoods for community health," said Wayne Geary, Senior GIS Health Researcher for the Human Early Learning Partnership Program at UBC. "Further, we were able to aggregate spatial units in a more timely manner, allowing us to move seamlessly between geopolitical units. This had a significant impact on our capacity to report, measure and analyze the relationships between socioeconomic indicators of health, child development and community assets."

Wayne Geary will be presenting this paper at GeoTec 2003. For more information on this project, visit www.safe.com/education.
